Dachshunds are highly intelligent dogs. Their personality is certainly one of the unique you will ever encounter. These happy, playful and funny dogs can be extremely suborn, feisty and focused when they put their mind to it. Dachshunds are good even tempered dogs and rank above average for trainability,excitability,playfulness and their excellent interaction with children. They make loyal and affectionate pet and re great watch dogs. They are ranked today top 10 registered breeds with the American Kennel club. They do great in apartments and are used for therapy because of their small size and friendly personalities. Dachshunds are low to the ground and come in tow sixes, miniature 11 pounds and under by 1 year of age and the standard dachshunds are 16 to 32 pounds by the time they are 1 year old. They come in 3 coats, smooth, wire and long hair. They also come in various patterns most popular being red, black/tan, chocolate/tan, cream, wild boar and wheaten. They also come in various patterns most popular being solid, dapples, brindle and piebalds. Dachshunds can live up to 11 to 16 years if proper diet and exercise are practiced from the start. Proper weight will help to reduce hip and back problems.
